first ever linux rice: the processes & result
Hello and welcome to the first ever blog,
I finally got my first ever linux rice in my laptop. Before we begin...
...what is rice? well in computing terms, its where you customize the OS to improve look and/or workflow.
Linux has lots of OS (what we like to call 'distros') and I got LOTS of recommendations for
gentoo linux, I am very aware enough to know arch and the reason I didnt pick it cuz its overrated, so hence gentoo linux. Although, lots of these recommendations comes from
ionic1k's server where they mostly use gentoo.
how will id like my linux distro to be riced:
- make it feel retro (windows 3.1 style), with a linux twist
- a stacking window manager
- mild-user-friendly distro
- making it look cool B)
the processes
Before installing it into the old laptop (bc it still transferring data to another disk), I use VirtualBox to see if I can install it with the help of a
yt tutorial as of writing this its very late like 10pm. This one command im runng is
emerge --ask --verbose --update --deep --changed-use @world
which I heard from the tutorial that it takes a while.
17/12/2025: a little update, I have to do this
AGAIN and its night so im doing it tommorow and update this blog after I
sucessfully install it...
note: this blog is still a work in progress
